Why you should be careful about letting test data into your CMS

I can’t imagine that this is for real, so someone at Target (US variant) isn’t being careful enough about letting test data go live in their content management system.

I think someone might lose their job over this one…

  1. It’s not test data. Target.com is part of Amazon.com, so they both use the same database. You can pass Amazon ASINs to the Target website’s querystring which results in pages like this one. If you pull the AISN from the querystring and search Amazon for it, you’ll find the item is a music CD by a questionably-named group.

  2. And now I know about the wonder that is AC, and I have listened to samples of their stuff on Amazon, I fear for the future of our planet. You have to wonder if the whole thing is a giant pisstake.
